Skwachàys Lodge: country’s first urban aboriginal hotel opens for business – Vancouver Sun

The country’s first urban aboriginal boutique hotel wants to give guests a unique experience from the moment they check in.

Guests at Skwachàys Lodge can choose to stay in one of 18 rooms each of which is uniquely designed by team of aboriginal artists and interior designers. Suites all have names such as The Tlingit Hat Suite, Sea Kingdom Suite and the Northern Lights Suite and feature original carvings, paintings, fabric, and furniture.

If guests want more of an aboriginal experience, they can try a traditional sweat lodge or attend a workshop with the aboriginal artist who inspired the design for the room they’re staying in.

Food is also part of the lodge’s unique aboriginal experience. Once the kitchen is fully operational, guests will be able to eat cinnamon-flavoured bannock bites and wild rice corn potato pancakes for breakfast. If they want room service, they can order meals such as bison bourguignon and pulled bison in a rhubarb barbecue sauce.
