Statement: 2023 Recommended Nunavut Land Use Plan

Press Release

28 June 2023

The Nunavut Planning Commission has completed a monumental task in recommending a Nunavut-wide land use plan for approval. The Government of Nunavut thanks the Nunavut Planning Commission for their hard work in realizing this Recommended Nunavut Land Use Plan. This important work would not have been possible without the contributions of Inuit, Nunavummiut, governments, industries, and other participants.

“As Minister of Environment responsible for accepting the Plan with the Federal Minister of Northern Affairs and the President of Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated,” said Minister Quassa. “I look forward to working with the three approval authorities cooperating together in the review of the 2023 Recommended Nunavut Land Use Plan.”

The important work of reviewing the Plan will happen over the next several months as approval authorities collaborate to make sure it protects and promotes the existing and future well-being of Inuit and Nunavummiut. Taking into account the interests of all Canadians.
