Fort William Chief Solomon says nations involved will be looking to increase their equity stake in the project
Six First Nations on the shores of Lake Superior have significantly increased their equity stake in the East-West Tie (EWT) Transmission Line.
The 450-kilometre and 230-kilovolt line came into service in March 2022, connecting Wawa to the municipality of Shuniah.
Bamkushwada LP (BLP), which represents the communities, now has an equity stake of 20 per cent, up from its initial 3.5 per cent, with support from a provincial guarantee of up to $75 million and a loan from Canada Life, as announced on Friday.
