The Ontario government is helping to build a stronger, more diverse northern economy while creating 10 jobs in communities across the north shore of Lake Superior.
With $419,105 in support from the province’s Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), seven projects in the Superior North region are boosting the local economies and creating jobs. Projects include:
The Town of Marathon is receiving $148,160 to renovate its former visitor centre into office space for the local forest management corporation, creating six jobs.
The Township of Schreiber is receiving $50,000 to hire a consultant who will develop a revitalization plan for the community.
Elements, a health and wellness centre in Greenstone is receiving $73,000 to launch operations, creating two jobs.
Whitesand First Nation is receiving $50,000 to complete a technical study on opening a wood pellet plant.
Ginoogaming First Nation is receiving $44,325 to develop a comprehensive economic development plan for the community.
The Municipality of Greenstone is receiving $40,000 to examine its energy needs and ensure it has the capacity to participate in future economic development opportunities.
Superior Strategies, a consulting business on the Lake Helen Reserve is receiving $13,620 to provide health and safety training and create two jobs.
