Retail trade, June 2022
Retail sales increased 1.1% to $63.1 billion in June, the sixth consecutive increase. Sales were up in 8 of 11 subsectors and were led by higher sales at gasoline stations and motor vehicle and parts dealers.
Almost half of Canadians report a strong sense of belonging to their local community
In 2021 and 2022, almost half of people in Canada (47%) reported having a strong sense of belonging to their community. This percentage was lower among young people aged 15 to 34 (ranging from 37% to 44%) and the LGBTQ2+ population (36%), among other groups.
Monthly credit aggregates, June 2022
Household mortgage debt increased 0.9% to reach $2,040.7 billion in June, a rise of $18.0 billion from May. Compared with June 2021, a strong month of borrowing, mortgages were up 9.6%. This represents the first time that annual growth was below double digits since June 2021. On a seasonally adjusted basis, household mortgage debt grew 0.7% in June, a deceleration from the 0.8% increase recorded in May.
Quarterly civil aviation statistics, first quarter 2022
Operating revenue for the 24 largest Canadian air carriers (Levels I and II) totalled $4.1 billion in the first quarter, well above the same quarter of 2021, but under two-thirds (62.6%) of that generated in the first quarter of 2019.
