Canada’s Core Public Infrastructure Survey: Roads, bridges and tunnels, 2016

Statistics Canada, in partnership with Infrastructure Canada, has launched its first-ever catalogue of the state of the nation’s infrastructure to provide statistical information on the stock, condition, performance and asset management strategies of Canada’s core public infrastructure assets. This first release presents findings on roads, bridges and tunnels.

Natural gas transmission, storage and distribution, June 2018

Natural gas transmission pipelines received 538.7 million gigajoules of natural gas from fields, gathering systems and plants in June, up 6.2% from the same month in 2017. The vast majority of receipts were in Alberta (69.3%) and British Columbia (28.6%).

Dairy statistics, June 2018

Production of drinkable milks (standard milk, 1% milk, 2% milk, skim milk, chocolate and other flavoured milk, buttermilk and eggnog) declined 0.4% from June 2017 to 194 357 kilolitres in June. Meanwhile, production of creams (all creams excluding ice cream and sour cream) rose 1.8% to 29 004 kilolitres in June.

Machinery and Equipment Price Index, second quarter 2018

The Machinery and Equipment Price Index (MEPI) increased 2.1% in the second quarter, following a 0.2% decrease in the first quarter. The import component was up 2.4%, while the domestic component increased 0.7%.

Cannabis Economic Account, second quarter 2018

Canadian household expenditures on cannabis (for medical and non-medical use) increased 1.2% in the second quarter, following a 1.4% increase in the first quarter. Household expenditures on cannabis have been increasing steadily since the first quarter of 2015, rising at an average rate of 1.0% per quarter. Consumption has risen 72% since the first quarter of 2001, when the Canadian government first passed legislation legalizing the consumption of cannabis for medical purposes.

Production and disposition of tobacco products, July 2018

Canadian manufacturers produced 1.8 billion cigarettes in July, up 13.9% from June. Cigarette production was 9.4% higher compared with the same month a year earlier.
