Labour Force Survey, July 2023
Employment was little changed in July (-6,000; -0.0%). The unemployment rate increased 0.1 percentage points to 5.5%, marking the third consecutive monthly increase.
Sawmills, May 2023
Lumber production decreased 1.6% from April to 4 008.9 thousand cubic metres in May. Production was down 13.8% from May 2022.
Energy statistics, May 2023
Primary energy production decreased 0.6% year over year to 1.9 million terajoules in May, on the heels of a 0.7% increase in April. This was the first year-over-year decline in production since January 2022. Reasons for the decline in May 2023 include several natural gas facilities in Alberta, which were impacted by forest fires as well as lower crude oil production (-2.6%) due to annual maintenance at a number of oilsands upgrading facilities and bitumen mines.

Data on stocks of frozen eggs and poultry meats, as well as edible dried egg products, are now available for July 2023. Data on the placements of hatchery chicks and turkey poults are available for June 2023, and data on egg production are available for May 2023.
