National net worth, the sum of national wealth and Canada’s net foreign asset position, rose 3.1% to reach $15,942.8 billion at the end of the third quarter.
Industrial capacity utilization rates, third quarter 2021
Canadian industries operated at 81.4% of their production capacity in the third quarter of 2021, down from 82.0% in the second quarter. This was the first quarterly decrease after four consecutive quarterly increases.
Pension Satellite Account, 2020
The pension wealth of Canadians grew 6.7% in nominal terms in 2020, increasing to $4,582.4 billion by the end of the year, as the world faced economic upheaval and financial uncertainty wrought by the global pandemic. The $288.6 billion rise was predominately caused by gains in foreign equity markets, which impacted the market value of assets. This growth in pension wealth was present among all three pension tiers (social security, employer-based and individual registered savings plans).
Longitudinal Immigration Database: Immigrants’ mobility during the initial years since admission
Based on the latest available data from the 2020 Longitudinal Immigration Database, Ontario had the highest five-year provincial retention rate for immigrants admitted in 2014 (93.7%), followed by British Columbia (89.7%) and Alberta (89.0%). Vancouver, Toronto and Edmonton were the top three Census Metropolitan Areas where these immigrants most often stayed.
Leading indicator of international arrivals to Canada, November 2021
November saw the number of international arrivals to Canada increase from the same month last year, but the number remained well below the pre-pandemic levels of November 2019.
