National balance sheet and financial flow accounts, third quarter 2019

National wealth, the value of non-financial assets in the Canadian economy, decreased 0.2% to $11,783.3 billion in the third quarter due to an 8.4% decline in the value of natural resources, as energy prices and the value of timber dropped.

Pension Satellite Account, 2018

Pension wealth consistently accounts for over half of households’ financial assets. The ratio of pension wealth to household net worth was 35.8% in 2018, up from 35.3% at the end of 2017. Non-financial assets for households declined 2.2% in 2018, compared with an increase of 6.2% in 2017. As a result, the ratio of pension wealth to household non-financial assets increased to 84.2%, up from 81.7% at the end of 2017.

Co-operatives in Canada, 2018

A non-financial co-operative is a corporation that is legally incorporated under specific federal, provincial or territorial co-operative acts, and that is owned by an association of persons seeking to satisfy common needs, such as access to products or services, sale of products or services, or employment. Two-thirds (66.6%) of active non-financial co-operatives are consumer co-operatives, 16.1% are producer co-operatives, 9.4% are multi stakeholders, 6.6% are worker co-operatives, and 1.3% are federations.

Study: Immigrant skill utilization: Immigrants with STEM education and trends in over-education

In 2016, immigrants made up over one-third of Canada’s population aged 25 to 64—the age group that is most active in the labour market—with at least a bachelor’s degree, and over one half of those in that age group with a degree in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Two new studies by Statistics Canada examine the education-occupation match of immigrants with at least a bachelor’s degree.
