Labour Force Survey, November 2018

Employment rose by 94,000 in November, driven by gains in full-time work. The unemployment rate decreased 0.2 percentage points to 5.6%, the lowest since comparable data became available in 1976.

In Canada, a growing number of people are learning an Aboriginal language as a second language. As a result, there were 263,840 people who reported that they could speak an Aboriginal language well enough to conduct a conversation in 2016, up 8% since 1996.

Integrating the production, distribution and consumption of cannabis in the Canadian national economic accounts, 2018

On April 13, 2017, the Government of Canada tabled legislation in the House of Commons to legalize, regulate and restrict access to cannabis for non-medical purposes. Bill C-45 was approved by Parliament and given royal assent on June 1, 2018. The drug’s new status came into effect on October 17, 2018.

The film, television, and video post-production industry reported $1.4 billion in total operating revenue in 2017, up 26.7% from 2015. Businesses in British Columbia (39.2%), Ontario (31.2%) and Quebec (29.1%) accounted for most of the revenue in 2017.
