Employment fell by 200,000 (-1.0%) in January and the unemployment rate rose 0.5 percentage points to 6.5%.
Cancer incidence and mortality trends, 1984 to 2020
Cancer affects the lives of many people living in Canada. It is estimated that 43% of Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, and cancer remains the leading cause of death. Examining the latest trends in the rates of diagnosis (incidence rates) and death (mortality rates) of cancer is useful for identifying emerging patterns and assessing the extent of the progress made in the fight against the disease. While several trends have been observed for different combinations of sex and cancer type over the past 35 years, all the trends described in this article are the most recent ones and have been observed for a minimum duration of five years.
Building construction price indexes, fourth quarter 2021
Residential building construction costs increased 3.8% in the fourth quarter of 2021, following a similar rise in the third quarter. Non-residential building construction costs were up 2.7% in the fourth quarter, decelerating slightly from the previous quarter.
Sawmills, November 2021
Lumber production increased 4.4% from October to 4 862.8 thousand cubic metres in November. Production was 0.3% lower than in November 2020.

Shipments of asphalt shingles totalled 2.1 million metric bundles in December, down 34.4% from the previous month and up 38.7% from December 2020.
