Labour Force Survey, December 2020
Employment fell by 63,000 (-0.3%) in December—the first decline since April. The unemployment rate was 8.6%, little changed from 8.5% in November.
National tourism indicators, third quarter 2020
Tourism spending in Canada rose during the third quarter but remained less than half (-52.9%) its level in the fourth quarter of 2019. The 56.4% increase followed large declines in the first (-14.0%) and second (-65.0%) quarters.
Energy statistics, October 2020
October marked an increase in Canadian economic activity following the gradual lifting of COVID-19 related shutdowns in previous months. While this economic growth was accompanied by an uptick in demand for energy, overall energy production was down year over year. Total electricity generation rose in October, while all other energy sectors were down. Production of crude oil and equivalent products fell for the seventh consecutive month, while natural gas, coal and refinery production remained below October 2019 levels.
Experimental indexes of economic activity in the provinces and territories, September 2020
Experimental indexes of economic activity show that the level of activity increased in most provinces and territories between August and September. However, the level of activity in September 2020 remained below that of a year earlier, and below the pre-COVID-19 level observed in February 2020, in most provinces and territories. Alberta remained the province with the lowest activity compared with its pre-pandemic level.
Farm product prices, November 2020
Prices received by farmers in November for grains, oilseeds, specialty crops, cattle, hogs, poultry, eggs and dairy products are now available at the provincial level.
Production and disposition of tobacco products, November 2020
Canadian manufacturers produced 1.9 billion cigarettes in November, up 17.8% from October 2020. Cigarette production was 4.8% higher compared with November 2019.
