Sales of wholesale products rose 0.5% in May to $72.2 billion, setting a record high for the sector for a third consecutive month.

Foreign investors acquired $20.8 billion in Canadian securities in May, mainly in the form of government debt securities. At the same time, Canadian investors increased their holdings of foreign securities by $10.7 billion, led by acquisitions of US shares.
Study: Harassment and discrimination among faculty and researchers in Canada’s postsecondary institutions
Results from a new study on harassment and discrimination among postsecondary academic faculty and researchers show that one-third (34%) of women survey participants experienced harassment in the previous 12 months. This was higher than the rate (22%) reported by men survey participants.
Personal Protective Equipment Survey, May 2021
With nearly half of the Canadian population vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of May 2021, demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) as well as concerns about shortages were down slightly compared with February 2021. Both posted their lowest levels since July 2020, when the first iteration of the survey was conducted. The share of businesses involved in the manufacturing or distribution of PPE also declined in May.
Environmental protection expenditures by businesses
In 2018, almost one in five (18%) Canadian businesses participated in at least one resource management activity, with expenditures totalling $10.6 billion. Of this total, 22% were expenditures related to the production of energy from renewable sources.
