Study: Child care workers in Canada
With provincially and territorially mandated lockdowns and restrictions on child care services imposed throughout the pandemic, child care workers experienced a 21% drop in employment from February 2020 to February 2021. This compares with a 3% decline in overall employment.
Study: The effect of COVID-19 on physical activity among Canadians and the future risk of cardiovascular disease
Prevention and control measures implemented since March 2020 have reduced the transmission of COVID-19, but they have also changed how Canadians live. There are concerns about the unintended consequences that may result from changes in health behaviours, such as physical activity. A new study released today estimates how many Canadians could potentially develop cardiovascular disease over the next three years because of reduced levels of physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dairy statistics, April 2021
The total amount of milk sold off farms in April increased 5.2% year over year to 785 341 kilolitres. Meanwhile, milk sold off farms for fluid purposes decreased 5.2% to 220 768 kilolitres. Milk sold off farms for industrial purposes rose 10.0% year over year to 564 573 kilolitres.
Oilseed crushing statistics, May 2021
Oilseed processors crushed 820 250 tonnes of canola in May. Oil production totalled 357 446 tonnes, while meal production totalled 468 587 tonnes.
Milled wheat and wheat flour produced, May 2021
Millers milled 249 361 tonnes of wheat in May, while wheat flour production totalled 192 295 tonnes.
