Gross domestic product by industry, April 2023
Real gross domestic product was essentially unchanged in April as goods-producing industries edged up 0.1%, while services-producing industries were essentially unchanged.
Study: The importance of short-term rentals in the accommodation services subsector, 2017 to 2021
This paper looks at the expansion of private short-term rentals in the accommodation services subsector over a five-year period from 2017 to 2021. During that time, the market share of the short-term rental industry more than doubled at the national level. However, this growth was uneven across the provinces and territories, where the short-term rental market can have significantly different impacts depending on location. This is also true of the subprovincial markets that were reviewed, which include the largest census metropolitan areas and some of the most recognizable tourist markets in Canada.

Proximity to services and amenities in Rural and Small Town Canada (ProximityRST) database, 2023
Even with the widespread digitalization of our society, physical proximity to services and amenities remains a major determinant of community sustainability and people’s quality of life. Some examples of such services and amenities are education, healthcare, libraries and parks. In recent years, Statistics Canada has carried out work to develop such measures of proximity, leading to the release of the first nationwide Proximity Measures Database (PMD) in 2020, followed by a new version in June 2023.
