Consumer Price Index, April 2017
The Consumer Price Index rose 1.6% on a year-over-year basis in April, matching the increase in March. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index was up 0.5% in April, after decreasing 0.2% in March.
Retail trade, March 2017
Following a 0.4% decline in February, retail sales rose 0.7% in March to $48.3 billion, on the strength of higher sales at motor vehicle and parts dealers. Sales were up in 6 of 11 subsectors, representing 53% of total retail trade.
Investment in new housing construction, March 2017
New housing construction investment totalled $4.2 billion in March, up 9.0% compared with March 2016. This gain was mainly the result of a $252.6 million increase in investments in Ontario.
Hours worked and labour productivity in the provinces and territories (preliminary), 2016
Business productivity rose in eight provinces and in Yukon in 2016. While productivity declined in Alberta (-1.1%) and was unchanged in Saskatchewan, this was an improvement for these provinces compared with 2015. Labour productivity continued to fall in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Nationally, business productivity grew 0.4%, following a similar decline in 2015.
Pipeline transportation of oil and other liquid petroleum products, March 2017
Oil pipelines received 21.2 million cubic metres of crude oil and equivalent products from Canadian fields and plants in March, up 10.3% compared to the same month in 2016. Of this total, 20.6 million cubic metres (97%) were received from Alberta and Saskatchewan.
