Gross domestic product by industry, August 2015

Real gross domestic product edged up 0.1% in August, following increases of 0.4% in June and 0.3% in July. The growth in August was mainly a result of gains in manufacturing, mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction and retail trade.

Study: Youth labour force participation, 2008 to 2014

The youth labour force participation rate declined from 2008 to 2014, the first prolonged decrease since the early 1990s. The labour force participation rate during school months declined 6.1 percentage points to 46.4% for youth aged 15 to 19, while it fell 2.2 percentage points to 73.7% for youth aged 20 to 24.

Sales in the food services and drinking places subsector increased 0.5% to $5.1 billion in August. Prices for food purchased from restaurants rose 2.8% in the 12 months to August, following a 2.7% gain in July.
