Spending on energy-related research and development (R&D) performed in-house by Canadian companies totalled $1.5 billion in 2017, accounting for 8.3% of the total in-house R&D expenditure in Canada.
Wastewater-based estimates of cannabis and drug use in Canada: Pilot test results, March 2018 to February 2019
In March 2018, as part of its modernization agenda, Statistics Canada launched a 12-month pilot project in five large urban centres (Halifax, Montréal, Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver) to collect and test municipal wastewater samples at treatment plant intake for traces of cannabis and a dozen other drugs.
Consumer goods rental sector, 2018
Firms in the consumer goods rental and general rental centres industry groups generated $2.9 billion in operating revenue in 2018, up 6.4% from 2017. This was the highest growth rate for the industry groups since 2008. Operating expenses rose 6.2% to $2.4 billion, leading to a 17.6% operating profit margin.
