National Travel Survey, first quarter 2018
Residents of Canada made 65.8 million trips in Canada and abroad in the first quarter, spending $19.1 billion. While 85.6% of these trips took place within Canada, Canadians actually spent the majority of their travel dollars on trips abroad (56.9%).
Visitor Travel Survey, first quarter 2018
Travellers from abroad made 4.8 million trips to Canada in the first quarter, up 4.5% from the first quarter of 2017. Foreign traveller spending in Canada rose 7.5% to $3.1 billion, mainly the result of a double-digit increase in travel spending by US residents.
