Provisional death counts and excess mortality, January 2020 to May 2021
From March to June 2020, 8,620 more lives were lost than would be expected. This is closely aligned with the 8,525 deaths caused by COVID-19 over the same period. In the fall, the number of excess deaths and deaths attributable to COVID-19 started to rise again, and affected provinces that saw relatively few COVID-19 deaths through the first months of the pandemic.
Retail Commodity Survey, May 2021
Retail sales reached $58.0 billion in May, an increase of 22.0% compared with the same month a year earlier. Higher sales were reported in 17 of the 19 commodity categories.
Industrial chemicals and synthetic resins, 2020
In 2020, the highest production levels for industrial chemicals were recorded for ethylene (5.4 million tonnes, down 0.3% from 2019), anhydrous ammonia (4.9 million tonnes, up 3.8%) and urea (4.3 million tonnes, up 7.3%).
