Study: Labour market outcomes of immigrant women who arrive as dependants of economic immigrant principal applicants
The points-based selection of immigrants has implications for the characteristics of immigrant couples who are admitted to Canada and for the subsequent labour market outcomes of immigrant families. For example, immigrant women who arrived as accompanying spouses of economic immigrant principal applicants were better educated, and more likely to know English or French, be employed after landing, and have higher earnings than women who arrived as family-class immigrants.
Farm Product Price Index, December 2016
The Farm Product Price Index (FPPI) decreased 0.7% in December compared with the same month a year earlier, primarily due to lower cattle prices. While the index continued the year-over-year decline, which began in December 2015, the index has been falling at a slower rate since September 2016.
Characteristics of international overnight travellers, third quarter 2016
Canadian residents made 8.8 million overnight trips abroad in the third quarter, spending $9.3 billion. Of these trips, 6.0 million were to the United States, accounting for $4.3 billion in spending.
