Labour Force Survey: Revisions, 2001 to 2020
Following each census cycle, Labour Force Survey (LFS) data are revised to ensure alignment with the most recently available population estimates, geographic boundaries, and occupation and industry classifications. This standard revision process—which has little impact on key labour market indicators such as employment and the unemployment rate—ensures that the LFS continues to paint a complete and accurate picture of labour market conditions.
Monthly estimates of business openings and closures, October 2020
In October, the number of business openings (41,910) exceeded the number of business closures (32,420) for the third consecutive month. As a result, the number of active businesses in October edged up 0.6%. Despite the slight increase, the number of active businesses was down 6.7% from February 2020.
Monthly Survey of Manufacturing: Flash estimate, December 2020
Given the rapidly evolving economic situation, Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for December. Advance results indicate that manufacturing sales rose 0.6% in December. The increase reflects widespread growth, particularly in the wood products and transportation equipment industries.
Dairy statistics, November 2020
The total amount of milk sold off farms increased 3.0% year over year to 770 453 kilolitres in November. Meanwhile, milk sold off farms for fluid purposes rose 1.2% to 234 217 kilolitres. Milk sold off farms for industrial purposes grew 3.7% year over year to 536 235 kilolitres.
Study: French-speaking workers in Ontario’s agriculture and agri-food industries in 2006 and 2016
In 2016, 41.7% of Ontario farms managed by a French-speaking operator generated gross farm receipts below $25,000, compared with 36.1% of all farms across the province.
