Wholesale trade, May 2017
Wholesale sales rose 0.9% to a record high $61.6 billion in May. Sales were up in six of the seven subsectors, representing 80% of total wholesale sales. The miscellaneous subsector and the motor vehicle and parts subsector contributed the most to the advance.
Quarterly Retail Commodity Survey, first quarter 2017
Retail sales reached $123.9 billion in the first quarter, up 5.8% from the same quarter of 2016. Higher sales were reported in 12 of the 16 major commodity groups.
Police-reported crime statistics, 2016
The police-reported Crime Severity Index, which measures the volume and severity of crime, increased 1% in 2016 over the previous year. This marked the second consecutive rise in the index following 11 years of declines. Even with this increase, the index is still 29% lower than it was in 2006.
Food Services and Drinking Places, May 2017
Sales in the food services and drinking places subsector were down 0.5% to $5.6 billion in May.
Natural gas transmission, storage and distribution, May 2017
Natural gas transmission pipelines received 541.6 million gigajoules of natural gas from fields, gathering systems and plants in May, up 7.8% from the same month in 2016. Six provinces posted receipts, with Alberta (72.3%) and British Columbia (25.2%) receiving the majority.

National data on the coal mining industry’s operating revenue and expenses, as well as employment and payroll, are now available for 2015.
