Monthly estimates of business openings and closures, April 2025
In April, the business closure rate edged down 0.1 percentage points to 4.7%, after edging up 0.1 percentage points the previous month. The opening rate held steady at 4.8% in April after posting a 0.1 percentage point increase in March. Both the opening and the closure rates have been relatively stable in 2025, oscillating between 4.7% and 4.8%.
Food services and drinking places, May 2025
Total sales in the food services and drinking places subsector increased 0.4% in May to $8.5 billion.
Wholesale trade: Early indicator, June 2025
Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the wholesale trade sector for June. The advance results for June indicate that wholesale sales (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain) rose 0.7%. The increase reflects higher sales in five of the seven subsectors.
