Quarterly financial statistics for enterprises, first quarter 2026
Canadian corporations reported operating profit of $209.9 billion in the first quarter, up $4.1 billion (+2.0%) from the previous quarter, driven by higher commodity prices amid uncertainty in global markets. Compared with the same quarter one year earlier, Canadian corporations’ operating profit increased by $6.9 billion (+3.4%).
Investment in building construction, March 2026
The total value of investment in building construction decreased $304.6 million (-1.3%) to $22.6 billion in March.
Railway carloadings, March 2026
In March, Canadian railways transported 32.5 million tonnes of freight, down 2.5% compared with March 2025, driven by declines in coal and wheat.
Wholesale trade: Advance indicator, April 2026
Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the wholesale trade sector. The advance results for April indicate that wholesale sales (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain) edged up 0.1%. The increase partly reflects higher sales in the building material and supplies subsector.
