Canada’s balance of international payments, third quarter 2020
Canada’s current account deficit (on a seasonally adjusted basis) expanded by $0.5 billion in the third quarter to $7.5 billion. In the financial account (unadjusted for seasonal variation), inflows of funds largely came from the repatriation of funds held abroad in the form of loans and deposits.
Industrial product and raw materials price indexes, October 2020
The Industrial Product Price Index fell 0.4% in October, driven mainly by lower prices for lumber and other wood products. The Raw Materials Price Index increased 0.5%, mostly due to higher prices for animals and animal products and crop products.

The Couriers and Messengers Services Price Index (2003=100) is now available for October.
Building permits, October 2020
Municipalities issued building permits worth $8.2 billion in October, down 14.6% from the previous month. September’s peak was the second highest value on record, with October’s results more in line with recent months.
Urban public transit, September 2020
September is typically marked by a strong increase in urban transit traffic and revenues with the start of the school year and end of summer vacations. After transit fell drastically in March and April in response to COVID-19, the number of passenger trips has climbed steadily each month since to reach 67.0 million in September. Despite this steady improvement, ridership remained 59.1% lower than the same month in 2019.
Top ten companies drive growth in the accounting services industry in 2019
The operating revenue of the accounting, tax preparation, bookkeeping and payroll services industry rose by 5.2% to $21.4 billion in 2019. Operating expenses increased at a slightly higher pace than revenue, up 5.5% to $15.7 billion. As a result, the profit margin decreased slightly to 26.8%. The accounting industry is relatively concentrated, with the top 10 companies comprising 47% of all the industry’s operating revenue in Canada.
