Investment in building construction, September 2020
Total investment in building construction decreased 1.7% to $15.2 billion in September, after reaching a record high in August.
Provincial and territorial economic accounts, 2019
Real gross domestic product (GDP) rose in all provinces and territories except Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories. Nationally, growth in real GDP slowed from 2.4% in 2018 to 1.9% in 2019—reflecting slower growth in most regions.

Energy statistics, August 2020
August saw a continued decline in energy production as economic activity and demand for energy products remained moderate. Production of crude oil and equivalent products fell year over year for the fifth consecutive month in August. Natural gas, coal and refinery production also remained below August 2019 levels, while electricity generation (including hydro and wind) rose.
Selected police-reported crime and calls for service during the COVID-19 pandemic, March to August 2020
During the first six months of the COVID-19 pandemic, 17 police services across Canada reported that selected criminal incidents were down by almost one-fifth (17%) compared with the same period a year earlier. In contrast, the number of calls for service rose 8%, particularly wellness checks, mental health calls and calls to attend domestic disturbances.
Eighth consecutive annual increase for spending on research and development in higher education sector
Spending on research and development (R&D) activities in Canada’s higher education sector totalled $15.1 billion in 2018/2019, up 5.2% from the previous year. This was the ninth consecutive annual increase, and the largest since 2012/2013. R&D makes an important contribution to enhancing a country’s standard of living and its competitiveness.
