Employment Insurance, February 2017

The number of regular Employment Insurance (EI) beneficiaries fell by 11,700 (-2.1%) to 554,200 in February, similar to the level of June 2016—just before the administrative changes that took effect last July.

Travel between Canada and other countries, February 2017

US residents made 2.0 million trips to Canada in February, down 1.1% from the previous month and down 0.6% compared with February 2016. Of these trips to Canada, 673,000 were same-day trips by car, down 1.0% from the previous month and down 4.5% compared with February 2016. The number of overnight US travellers arriving by plane decreased 3.0% from the previous month to 381,000. All provinces except Manitoba and Newfoundland and Labrador received fewer US travellers than in January.

Air fares, third quarter 2016

Base air fares in Canada, domestic and international combined, averaged $244.90 in the third quarter, down 1.5% from the same quarter in 2015. This marked the sixth consecutive year-over-year quarterly decline.
