Employment Insurance, June 2019

In June, 442,600 people received regular Employment Insurance (EI) benefits. This figure is virtually unchanged from the previous month. The number of EI beneficiaries in June increased in Quebec, while it decreased in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.

Wholesale trade, June 2019

Wholesale sales rose 0.6% to $64.1 billion in June, partly offsetting the 1.9% decline in May. Sales were up in four of seven subsectors, representing 54% of total wholesale sales.

A snapshot of federal licensed cannabis producers, 2018

Cannabis cultivators, processors and sellers, which are federally licensed under the Cannabis Act, employed 2,399 people in fiscal year 2017/2018. In that year, 83 businesses were licensed to produce cannabis. They had 187 709 square metres of active cultivation area and a further 854 265 square metres of inactive cultivation area.

Livestock estimates, July 1, 2019

Canadian cattle, hog and sheep inventories were down on July 1, compared with July 1, 2018. With the exception of a few small increases, Canadian cattle inventories have declined year over year since July 2005. This was the second consecutive year-over-year decrease for Canadian hog inventories. Meanwhile, with the exception of a small increase in July 2018, Canadian sheep inventories have declined year over year since July 2011.

The Construction Union Wage Rate Index (including supplements) for Canada was unchanged in July, compared with the previous month. The index for all trades (including supplements) rose 0.2% over the 12-month period ending in July.
