Canadian international merchandise trade, June 2021
In June, a sharp increase in exports resulted in Canada’s merchandise trade balance returning to a surplus position, reaching $3.2 billion. This follows a $1.6 billion deficit in May. Exports of goods rose 8.7% in June, while imports decreased 1.0%.
Energy statistics, May 2021
Primary energy production rose 7.2% on a year-over-year basis in May, up from a 4.5% gain in April and the third consecutive monthly increase. Significant declines in energy production in May 2020 were behind the year-over-year increase this May. Crude oil and natural gas liquids were the main contributors to the year-over-year increase in production in May.
Canadian international trade in services, June 2021
Canada’s monthly international trade in services deficit widened from $412 million in May to $740 million in June. Overall, imports of services increased 3.5% to $10.0 billion, while exports edged up 0.1% to $9.3 billion.
