Retail trade, November 2017
Retail sales increased for the third consecutive month in November, rising 0.2% to $50.1 billion. Sales were up in 6 of 11 subsectors, representing 37% of total retail trade.
Payroll employment, earnings and hours, November 2017
Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees were $988 in November, increasing 0.6% from October. Compared with 12 months earlier, earnings were up 2.8%, with most of the gains having occurred since July 2017.
Cannabis Economic Account, 1961 to 2017
In 2017, about 4.9 million Canadians aged 15 to 64 spent an estimated $5.7 billion on cannabis for medical and non-medical purposes.
Repair and maintenance services, 2016
The repair and maintenance services subsector earned $27.9 billion in operating revenue in 2016, down 0.4% from $28.0 billion in 2015. Operating profit margins fell from 9.1% in 2015 to 8.3% in 2016.
Architectural services, 2016
Architectural and landscape architectural service industries earned a combined operating revenue of $4.1 billion in 2016, up 3.1% from 2015. Meanwhile, the operating expenses of the two industries increased 2.1% to $3.5 billion. This resulted in an operating profit margin of 15.8%, up from 14.9% in 2015.
Dairy statistics, November 2017
From January to November, 146 201 tonnes of cheddar cheese were produced, a 2.6% increase from the same period in 2016. Production of specialty cheese rose from 276 312 tonnes to 285 582 tonnes (+3.4%) over the same 11-month period. Overall, through 11 months, total cheese production (the sum of cheddar and specialty cheeses) has increased 3.1% in 2017 compared with 2016.
Construction Union Wage Rate Index, December 2017
The Construction Union Wage Rate Index (including supplements) for Canada was unchanged in December compared with the previous month. The composite index increased 1.0% in the 12 months to December.
