Payroll employment, earnings and hours, and job vacancies, November 2020

Average weekly earnings were $1,110 in November, up 0.6% compared with October. This brought the year-over-year increase in earnings to 6.6%, as job losses since February have been concentrated among hourly paid—and largely lower-paid—employees.

The total value of building permits decreased 4.1% to $9.1 billion in December, following a month during which several high value permits were issued. Declines were reported in every component except single-family dwellings.

Average total income of farm families operating a single farm declines in 2018

Farm families operating a single farm in Canada reported more off-farm income from a year earlier but less net operating income, leading to a slight decline in total income in 2018. Almost two-thirds of the total income of farm families in 2018 was derived from off-farm income. Farm families specializing in potato farming had the highest average total income in 2018 while farm families in British Columbia had the highest average total income nationally.

One in five Canadians with mental health-related disabilities lives in core housing need

Canadians with mental health-related disabilities were more than twice as likely as those without disabilities to live in households considered to be in core housing need in 2017. Canadians with mental health-related disabilities were also more likely than those without disabilities to live alone, to rent their homes and to live in subsidized housing, according to the 2017 Canadian Survey on Disability (CSD).

Urban public transit, November 2020

Recovery in urban public transit slowed for the second month in a row, following steady gains during the summer. Ridership in November was 64.2% or 105.8 million rides below November 2019 levels. This was the eighth consecutive month of steep year-over-year decline, each less severe, signalling a slow recovery until an abrupt stop in October.
