Income of families and individuals: Subprovincial data from the T1 Family File, 2019

Median after-tax income of families and individuals edged up 0.6% from a year earlier, to $54,790 in 2019. Median after-tax income grew at the fastest pace in census metropolitan areas (CMAs) in Quebec, while the largest decline was in the CMA of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Nationally, the share of individuals living in low income was unchanged from a year earlier.

Impaired driving in Canada, 2019

In 2019, the rate of police-reported incidents of impaired driving was up 19% from the rate recorded in 2018. More specifically, the rate of alcohol-impaired driving increased by 15%, while the rate of drug-impaired driving increased by 43% in this first year since the legalization of cannabis.
