In May, 454,100 people received regular Employment Insurance benefits, virtually unchanged from April.
Investment in non-residential building construction, second quarter 2018
Investment in non-residential building construction totalled $14.3 billion in the second quarter, up 1.4% compared with the first quarter.
Investment in new housing construction, May 2018
Investment in new housing construction increased 6.3% from May 2017 to $4.8 billion in May. The year-over-year increase was led by spending on multiple-unit construction (apartment buildings, row houses and semi-detached houses), while spending on single-family homes was down.
Retail Services Price Index, first quarter 2018
The Retail Services Price Index (RSPI) decreased 0.8% in the first quarter, largely due to lower margins at general merchandise stores and food and beverage stores.
Wholesale Services Price Index, first quarter 2018
The Wholesale Services Price Index (WSPI) rose 0.8% in the first quarter, following a 0.3% increase in the fourth quarter of 2017. Margins were up in four of the eight subsectors and down in the other four subsectors.
Passenger bus and urban transit, 2016
Total operating revenue for the Canadian passenger bus and urban transit industry declined slightly to $12.0 billion (-1.4%) in 2016, while total operating expenses increased to $13.8 billion (+6.7%).
Canadian potato production, June 2018
Potato farmers planted 347,416 acres (140 594 hectares) of potatoes in 2018, up 0.5% from 2017.
