Wholesale trade, May 2016
Wholesale sales rose 1.8% to $55.9 billion in May. Gains were recorded in six of seven subsectors, accounting for 88% of total wholesale sales, and were led by the motor vehicle and parts subsector.
Employment Insurance, May 2016
In May, 544,900 people received regular Employment Insurance benefits, up slightly (+4,800 or +0.9%) from the previous month.
Investment in new housing construction, May 2016
Spending on new housing construction totalled $4.2 billion in May, up 5.0% from the same month a year earlier.
Pension plans in Canada, as of January 1, 2015
Membership in registered pension plans (RPPs) in Canada totalled 6,257,000 people in 2014, an increase of 72,000 or 1.2% over 2013.
Canadian potato production, 2016 (planted area)
Potato farmers planted 342,602 acres (138 647 hectares) of potatoes in 2016, down 1.8% from 2015, continuing the overall downward trend of the past 12 years. Seeded area decreased in all provinces, except Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia.
