Payroll employment fell by 257,500 (-1.6%) in May, with much of the decline concentrated in service industries in Ontario.
Aircraft movement statistics: Major airports, May 2021
In May, there were 373,173 aircraft movements at Canada’s major airports. This represents a 79.8% increase over May 2020, but still 34.0% below pre-pandemic levels in May 2019.
Monthly civil aviation statistics, May 2021
As travel restrictions continued throughout May, major Canadian airlines carried 514,000 passengers on scheduled and charter services during the month. While more than double the passengers from May 2020, it was down 92.5% from the pre-pandemic level in May 2019.
Impacts of the drought on crop quality indicators
Recent crop reports from Western Canada have described the effects of record-high temperatures and lack of rainfall that have stressed crops. These reports indicate that some crops have matured faster than normal, or stagnated in their development. The longer these conditions persist, the greater the negative impact will be on crop and hay yields, grain quality and ultimately, farm cash receipts.

Poultry and egg statistics, July 2021
Data on stocks of frozen eggs and poultry meats, as well as edible dried egg products, are now available for July. Data on the placements of hatchery chicks and turkey poults are available for June, and data on egg production are available for May.
Canadian Tourism Activity Tracker, May 2021
In May, overall tourism activity in Canada was 68.9% below the level reached in May 2019, before the pandemic. This was down even more than April (-66.3%) with the continuation of border closures into May and a full month of tighter restrictions in some provinces to combat a third wave of COVID-19.
