Canadian international merchandise trade, May 2022
In May, Canada’s merchandise exports rose 4.1%, a fifth consecutive monthly increase. Meanwhile, imports decreased 0.7%. As a result, Canada’s merchandise trade surplus with the world widened from $2.2 billion in April to $5.3 billion in May, the largest trade surplus since August 2008.
Canadian international trade in services, May 2022
Canada’s monthly international trade in services deficit narrowed from $1.3 billion in April to $1.1 billion in May. Overall, exports of services increased 1.7% to $12.4 billion, while imports were up 0.5% to $13.5 billion.

Production and disposition of tobacco products, May 2022
Canadian manufacturers produced 1.5 billion cigarettes in May 2022, up 17.9% from April 2022. Cigarette production was 4.4% higher compared with May 2021.
Energy statistics, April 2022
In April, primary energy production jumped 5.0% to 1.9 million terajoules compared with production in April 2021. This was the third consecutive monthly year-over-year increase for primary energy production, which includes production of crude oil, natural gas and coal, and primary electricity generation.
