Canada’s international investment position, first quarter 2026
Canada’s net foreign asset position, the difference between its international financial assets and international liabilities, was down by $310.8 billion to $1,360.5 billion at the end of the first quarter.
Building permits, April 2026
In April, the total value of building permits issued in Canada decreased $1.0 billion (-7.6%) to $12.5 billion.
New motor vehicle registrations, first quarter 2026
Canadians registered 397,601 new motor vehicles in the first quarter, a decrease of 6.9% from the first quarter of 2025 and a decrease of 3.7% from the fourth quarter of 2025.
Leading indicator of international arrivals to Canada, May 2026
In May, the preliminary number of international arrivals to Canada (Canadian-resident return trips, combined with US-resident and overseas-resident arrivals) by air and automobile totalled 5.2 million, up 7.6% from the same month in 2025. May 2026 marked the second year-over-year increase in international arrivals since January 2025.
Provisional death counts, January 2024 to March 2026
Today’s release includes new and updated adjusted counts of death from the Canadian Vital Statistics Death Database, covering the period from January 6, 2024, to April 4, 2026. The Provisional Deaths in Canada Dashboard, which provides the most recent insights on mortality trends, as well as interactive data visualization tools, has been updated.
