Police-reported hate crime, 2020
There were 37% more police-reported hate crimes in 2020 compared with a year earlier, rising from 1,951 incidents in 2019 to 2,669 in 2020. Police-reported hate crimes targeting race or ethnicity almost doubled, accounting for the vast majority of the national increase. Over the same period, the overall police-reported crime rate decreased by 10%.
Estimating the economic value of unpaid household activities in Canada, 2015 to 2019
The value of unpaid household work in Canada, based on a gross opportunity cost, rose to $860.2 billion or 37.2% of nominal GDP in 2019, which was larger than the total contributions of the manufacturing, wholesale and retail industries.

Annual wages, salaries and commissions of T1 tax filers, 2020
Labour markets were massively disrupted in 2020 as a result of pandemic-induced economic shut-downs. Losses in jobs and hours impacted lower-earning workers disproportionately, while workers in some higher earning industries and occupations experienced increases in employment and wages. Taken altogether, median annual wages, salaries and commissions in Canada were $39,880 in 2020, up 0.8% from 2019. At the same time, the number of earners among tax filers was virtually unchanged (down 18,510 earners, or 0.1%) and the earnings of lower-earning workers fell 10.6%.

Canada’s population estimates, fourth quarter 2021
Demographic estimates for Canada, the provinces and the territories on January 1, 2022 are now available. These new data allow for an analysis of population growth during the fourth quarter of 2021 and the whole of 2021.
