Canadian farmers expect to plant more canola, barley, soybeans and corn for grain in 2026, while they anticipate area seeded to wheat, oats, lentils and dry peas to decrease compared with the previous year.
Farm Product Price Index, December 2025
The Farm Product Price Index rose 2.3% in December 2025 compared with the same month one year earlier. This increase was mainly due to an increase in the cattle and calves index, which more than offset the decline in the total crops index.
Control and sale of alcoholic beverages and cannabis, April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025
Federal and provincial governments earned $15.5 billion (-2.0%) from the control and sale of alcohol ($13.1 billion; -4.2%) and recreational cannabis ($2.5 billion; +11.5%) in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025.

Area-Level Measures: A Review and Recommendation Report
There has been growing interest in recent years to understand social and health inequalities across Canadian neighbourhoods using area-level measures. A new report in the Analytical Studies: Methods and References series produced by the Centre for Health Data Integration and Direct Measures defines core concepts and introduces specific area-level measures developed and used to support population health research. To assist users, the report provides a practical decision-making framework and recommendations for selecting the most appropriate methods to meet specific research objectives.
