Canada’s international transactions in securities, March 2017
Foreign investment in Canadian securities amounted to $15.1 billion in March, largely in Canadian corporate instruments. At the same time, Canadian investors added $15.4 billion of foreign securities to their holdings, led by acquisitions of US equities.
Employment Insurance, March 2017
In March, 551,100 people received regular Employment Insurance benefits, down slightly (-2,900 or -0.5%) from February.
Wholesale Services Price Index, fourth quarter 2016
The Wholesale Services Price Index (WSPI) was up 1.3% in the fourth quarter compared with the previous quarter. This was the fifth consecutive quarterly gain. Of the eight subsectors, five were up and three were down in the fourth quarter.
Retail Services Price Index, fourth quarter 2016
The Retail Services Price Index (RSPI) declined 1.3% in the fourth quarter, with 5 of the 10 major retail subsectors posting margin declines.
Travel between Canada and other countries, March 2017
US residents made 2.0 million trips to Canada in March, down 1.0% from February and a 4.2% decline from the same month a year earlier.
Annual telecommunications statistics, 2015
In 2015, operating revenues for the telecommunications industry increased 2.5% over the previous year to $60.3 billion. At the same time, operating expenses increased 0.9% to $47 billion. As a result, the industry generated a 22.0% operating profit margin.
