Wholesale trade, March 2019
Wholesale sales rose for the fourth consecutive month, up 1.4% to $64.1 billion in March. Higher sales were recorded in six subsectors, accounting for 82% of total wholesale sales. The motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts and accessories subsector was the lone subsector to decline.
Employment Insurance, March 2019
In March, 436,600 people received regular Employment Insurance benefits, down 4,400 (-1.0%) from February.
Study: Income Growth per Capita in the Provinces since 1950
According to a new study, from 1950 to 2016, real gross domestic income (GDI) per capita grew fastest in provinces with large oil and gas deposits, such as Alberta (+2.7% per annum based on a compound annual growth rate), Saskatchewan (+3.0% per annum) and Newfoundland and Labrador (+3.6% per annum)—and in provinces that had the lowest current dollar gross domestic product (GDP) per capita values in 1950, such as Prince Edward Island (+3.1% per annum), New Brunswick (+2.7% per annum) and Nova Scotia (+2.6% per annum).

The Construction Union Wage Rate Index (including supplements) for Canada was unchanged in April compared with the previous month. The index for all trades (including supplements) rose 1.3% over the 12 month period ending in April.
