Annual international trade in services, 2024
Canada’s exports and imports of services both increased in 2024, led by growth in international travel. Exports of services totalled $231.7 billion, up 5.9% from 2023, while imports of services into Canada reached $230.2 billion (+7.2%).

Study: The contribution of foreign-born mothers to Canadian births from 1997 to 2024
In 2024, more than two in five newborns (42.3%) had a foreign-born mother, a proportion that nearly doubled in just over 25 years. In 2024, Ontario and British Columbia (48.7% each) had the highest proportion of births to foreign-born mothers, while the lowest proportion was observed in the Atlantic provinces (23.6%).
Energy supply and demand, 2024
Canada produced, exported and consumed more energy products in 2024 compared with the previous year. The expansion of the Trans Mountain Pipeline, which began operations in May, contributed to higher exports. Meanwhile, increased domestic consumption was driven primarily by energy use in the mining and oil and gas extraction and the pipeline transportation subsectors.
An overview of the immigrant population born in the United States living in Canada
The ties between Canada and the United States are deep and are reflected by migration in both directions across the border. Although the flow of US immigrants to Canada has slowed from a high in 1971, when they represented 11% of recent immigrants, it has never stopped. According to the 2021 Census of Population, US immigrants accounted for 3% of recent immigrants, making the United States the sixth most important source country of recent immigrants to Canada.
