Employment Insurance, September 2019

In September, 445,600 people received regular Employment Insurance (EI) benefits, down 5,600 (-1.2%) from August. There were notable decreases in five provinces, particularly in Alberta and British Columbia. At the same time, there were more EI beneficiaries in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

Aquaculture, 2018

Sales of aquaculture products and services increased 4.4% from 2017 to $1.5 billion in 2018, due to ongoing higher prices for finfish products since 2016. Finfish sales increased 2.6% to $1.3 billion in 2018, accounting for 90.0% of sales of aquaculture products and services.

Quarterly civil aviation statistics, second quarter 2019

Total operating revenue for the 26 largest Canadian air carriers totalled $6.9 billion in the second quarter, up 9.6% from the second quarter of 2018. The gain was largely attributable to higher operating revenue for passenger transportation. Passenger revenue accounted for 89.2% of total operating revenue, while goods revenue comprised 5.7%. Total operating expenses grew 5.2% to $6.4 billion.

Surveying and mapping services, 2018

Following a strong increase of 10.7% in 2017, operating revenue for the surveying and mapping service industries edged up 0.4% to $2.3 billion in 2018. The ongoing weakness of Alberta’s oil sector mitigated the industry’s performance. Operating revenue in Alberta fell 6.7% in 2018, almost 50% below the revenue posted in 2013, while Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, and British Columbia stood out with increases in revenue of at least 10% in 2018.
