Canada’s balance of international payments, third quarter 2019

Canada’s current account deficit (on a seasonally adjusted basis) widened by $3.1 billion to $9.9 billion in the third quarter, following a reduction of $10.1 billion in the second quarter. In the financial account (unadjusted for seasonal variation), transactions in the form of currency and deposits led the inflow of funds into the economy.

Payroll employment, earnings and hours, September 2019

The average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees were $1,042 in September, up 0.9% from August. Compared with September 2018, earnings grew by 4.0%, continuing an upward trend observed since March.

Monthly civil aviation statistics, September 2019

The six Canadian Level I air carriers flew 6.9 million passengers on scheduled and charter services in September, down 0.5% from September 2018. This marks the third consecutive monthly decline. There was a 2.2% decrease in August 2019.

Aircraft movement statistics: Major airports, September 2019

Aircraft take-offs and landings at Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations decreased slightly (-0.3%) in September. Combined, 90 airports reported 508,641 movements, compared with 91 airports totalling 510,191 movements in September 2018.

Accounting services, 2018

The operating revenue of the accounting, tax preparation, bookkeeping and payroll services industry, fuelled by national economic growth, rose by 4.6% to $20.3 billion in 2018. Operating expenses rose at a similar pace, up 4.7% to $14.8 billion. As a result, the profit margin held steady at 27.0%. The accounting industry is relatively concentrated, with the top 10 companies comprising 46% of all the industry’s operating revenue in Canada.
