Employment Insurance, July 2021
The number of Canadians receiving regular Employment Insurance benefits dropped by 38,000 (-2.4%) in July to 1.5 million.
Retail trade, July 2021
Retail sales fell 0.6% to $55.8 billion in July. Sales were down in 5 of 11 subsectors, with the decline primarily driven by lower sales at food and beverage stores and at building material and garden equipment and supplies dealers.
Wholesale trade: Early indicator, August 2021
Given the rapidly evolving economic situation, Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the wholesale trade sector for August. The advance results for August indicate that wholesale sales rose 0.5%. The increase reflects higher sales in the food, beverage, and tobacco subsector.
Food services and drinking places, July 2021
On a seasonally adjusted basis, sales in the food services and drinking places subsector were up 11.0% in July 2021 compared with the previous month.
