Monthly Survey of Manufacturing, February 2019

Manufacturing sales edged down 0.2% in February to $56.6 billion, following a 0.8% increase in January. Lower sales at motor vehicle assembly and wood products industries were largely offset by gains in the petroleum and coal product, paper and machinery industries.

Canada’s international transactions in securities, February 2019

Foreign acquisitions of Canadian securities totalled $12.0 billion in February, following a significant investment of $28.6 billion in January. At the same time, Canadian investment in foreign securities increased to $5.3 billion, led by purchases of US corporate bonds.

Study: The Wealth of Immigrant Families in Canada

While many studies have documented the financial characteristics of immigrants in Canada in terms of low income and labour market outcomes, the wealth of immigrant families has received relatively little attention. A new Statistics Canada study addresses this gap using data from the 1999, 2005, 2012 and 2016 Surveys of Financial Security.

Harvesting activities such as hunting, fishing, trapping and gathering wild plants have been part of First Nations, Métis and Inuit way of life for millennia.
