Wholesale trade, June 2018
Wholesale sales declined for the second time in three months, down 0.8% to $63.1 billion in June. Sales were down in five of seven subsectors, accounting for 71% of total wholesale sales.
Investment in new housing construction, June 2018
Investment in new housing construction increased 6.3% in June compared with the same month a year earlier to $5.0 billion. The year-over-year increase was mainly attributable to higher spending on apartment building construction, while investment in single family homes declined for the fourth consecutive month.
Canadian business counts, June 2018
Nationally, there were 1,272,791 active businesses with employees in June. Provincially, Ontario reported the highest number of active businesses with employees at 466,229, followed by Quebec (258,676), British Columbia (199,440) and Alberta (174,995).
Announcement regarding the June 2018 data on travel between Canada and other countries
The Frontier Counts are based on administrative data from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). These data provide information on the number of border crossings of international travellers for both outbound travel (Canadian residents travelling abroad) and inbound travel (residents of other countries travelling to Canada).
