Study: Education and earnings of Canadian-born Black populations

In 2021, 1.5 million people in Canada reported being Black, and more than 300 different ethnic or cultural origins were reported in the Census of Population. While the education and labour market experiences of Black people in Canada are equally diverse, their rates of employment and earnings are generally lower than the non-Indigenous, non-racialized population.

Commuting to work by car and public transit grows in 2023

In May 2023, 15.9 million Canadians or four in five workers were commuting to a location outside their home for work, up from both 2021 (+3.3 million) and 2016 (+457,000).

Railway carloadings, June 2023

Canadian railways transported 28.3 million tonnes of freight in June, down 6.9% from June 2022 and the second consecutive month of year-over-year decline. Overall traffic was at its lowest level for the month of June in more than five years.

Study: Culture Flash Estimates, 2022

Today, Statistics Canada publishes a new article titled “Return to life after two years of the COVID-19 pandemic: A look at culture, arts, entertainment and recreation services in 2022.” According to this article, most of the industries in arts, entertainment and recreation services saw strong growth in 2022, the first year of true recovery following shutdowns in 2020 and partial closures and restrictions in 2021.
