But while today’s decision-making can count on a wealth of robust socioeconomic data, getting a complete picture of the state of Canada’s ecosystems is difficult at the current time.
Monthly estimates of business openings and closures, October 2021
Business openings decreased from September to October 2021 (-4.7%, -1,957) after several months of increases. However, the number of business closures also decreased from September to October (-5.7%, -2,367), and as a result, the number of active businesses was relatively unchanged (-0.4%, -3,836). October marked the sixth consecutive month in which the number of active businesses was above February 2020 levels.
Dairy statistics, November 2021
The total amount of milk sold off farms in November increased 0.5% year over year to 774 529 kilolitres. Meanwhile, milk sold off farms for fluid purposes decreased 0.8% to 230 659 kilolitres. Milk sold off farms for industrial purposes rose 1.1% year over year to 543 870 kilolitres.
Oilseed crushing statistics, December 2021
Oilseed processors crushed 704 696 tonnes of canola in December. Oil production totalled 293 945 tonnes, while meal production totalled 422 998 tonnes.
Milled wheat and wheat flour produced, December 2021
Millers milled 263 000 tonnes of wheat in December, while wheat flour production totalled 198 000 tonnes.
